Can I Become A Successful Entrepreneur? | Do These 4 Things

Can I become a successful entrepreneur? Why certainly you can! I am a firm believer that it is within anyone’s grasp to become successful at business, especially online.

We live in a rapidly changing world, full of uncertainty these days. So many people are seeking to take action and become their own bosses. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact, I encourage it. But how do you go about it? Especially, if you have no idea how to get started?

We’re going to answer these questions and the 4 things you absolutely must do to become successful. So sit down, grab a cup of your favorite drink and we’ll get started.

Introduction

Becoming a successful entrepreneur used to be something that only the really smart chaps did. These days, that’s far from the truth. With the technological advances that we enjoy today, just about anything is possible.

For example, in the past, you would have had to land a publishing deal to publish a book. Today, you can self publish using print-on-demand, eBooks, Kindle, and more. Things that used to be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive are now fast, easy, and cheap.

Opportunities abound in today’s world of high-tech. We are in the middle of the information revolution. No other time in history has had so much information available at our fingertips. Think about it, it’s truly amazing. The things we take for granted today were the sci-fi of yesterday. And so it will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

I can’t say it enough that there has never been such a time in history as there is today, whereby you can create a very lucrative business online with so little investment.

Being a successful entrepreneur is a way of life nowadays. You’ve just got to want it bad enough and be willing to do what it takes to achieve that success.

This famous quote from the late Steve Jobs really says it all.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~Steve Jobs

With that said, let’s get on with it!

#1 What Are Your Dreams – What Do You Want?

man looking out across the ocean

Many people set out to BE an entrepreneur without knowing exactly what it is they want. They wander aimlessly from task to task without ever really getting anything done. It’s like getting in your car and going ‘somewhere’ without really knowing where that somewhere is.

It’s hard to take start your journey without a destination.

This is why you’ve got to first define what is you want to do and where you want to go with it. Now, some people know exactly what it is they want to do, it may have been their lifelong dream or goal, and they have it all thought out. If you’re one of those people, that’s great!

Otherwise, answer these questions:

  • The type of business do you want? Internet or Brick and Mortar?
  • What are you the happiest doing?
  • Do you have an idea you want to expand on?
  • Is there a dream you want to realize?
  • How much do you have to invest in your dream?
  • Are you planning on creating passive income (hint, hint)?

Whatever it is you choose to do, make sure you can see yourself doing this happily for a long time. Remember, you want this to be your dream. Like Jeff Bezos had a dream with Amazon or Sam Walton with Walmart and Sams Club.

You’ve got to know where you want to be 5, 10, or 20 years from now. You’ll go to bed with it and wake up with it. It’s your baby.

#2 Create A Plan

Once we know where it is we want to go we’ve got create a plan to get there and set deadlines. I don’t remember who said it, maybe Napoleon Hill, but it goes “a goal is just a dream with a deadline”.

Your plan will need to be broken down into actionable goals. This may require some research depending on the type of business you’re starting and how much knowledge you already have about it.

For example, if you’re getting into affiliate marketing, your plan might look something like:

  • Week 1: Determine what additional training I need
  • Week 2: Get started on training
  • Week 4: Research and decide on a profitable niche
  • Week 5: Secure a relevant domain name and WordPress hosting provider
  • Week 6: Plan the layout of my website
  • and so on…

Now, I have used weeks in the example above, but with yours I would use exact dates and specific goals. Some things may take longer than others and that’s OK. Just make sure you have specific goals you can mark as complete on a regular basis. This way you can see your accomplishments as you progress.

Don’t leave things open-ended. That will lead to loose ends and unfinished tasks.

Do the research, spend time creating a well-thought-out plan. Don’t leave anything out. It will prove time well spent.

#3 Take Action

The difference between asking “Can I become a successful entrepreneur?” and becoming a successful entrepreneur is taking action. When I say taking action, I mean taking MASSIVE action. Not just a little here and little there, or when you have time.

I can’t stress enough that having the plans with goals and deadlines is nothing if you don’t take action. You should be doing something every day that moves you closer to realizing your dream.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” ―Dale Carnegie

If you can break down your individual goals into daily activities, it can help keep you motivated. A lot of folks tell you to post your goals where you can see them when you go to bed and when you get up. This is a great idea. Keep your thoughts focused on the end result and remember why it is you wanted to become a successful entrepreneur in the first place.

There will be days that you just don’t want to get up and do anything or you may start thinking you’re never going to get there. You must push aside those negative thoughts and replace them with definitive actions.

It is your actions that define you.

#4 DON’T Give Up

Above all else, never, ever give up! There will be setbacks, but you can’t give up. There will be days when everything is going wrong, but you can’t give up. There will be days when you want to throw in the towel but don’t.

Failures are only temporary setbacks, they aren’t permanent.

There have been many times when a man has quit when only inches from the finish line. Most, if not all of our greatest inventors faced many failures or temporary setbacks. Thomas Edison, who invented the incandescent light bulb, tried thousands of times to get it right be he succeed by using tungsten as a filament.

Sir Isaac Newton who created the laws of motion and universal gravitation came to a point where there was simply no form of mathematics to perform certain calculations. Undeterred, he created a new form math called Calculus. Others would have given up, but the man just created a new form of math to solve the problem!

Others may doubt you and tell you that you are wasting your time, but don’t listen to them. You know better. Nothing happens overnight, success will come on schedule when it should.

The fact is, you must agree with yourself ahead of time, from the getgo, that no matter what, you will persist until you succeed. You can not fail unless you quit, and quit is not something you are capable of doing.

Bonus Content

There is another thing you can do to help ensure your success. That is by surrounding yourself with like-minded people. In this way, you have a support system of others to fall back on and get your questions answered.

Where you do this and how you do this depends on the business you are in. Do some research, you’re bound to find others you can hook up with.

For example, my dream was to become an affiliate marketer. I didn’t do this all by myself. I had (and still do) the support of other like-minded and successful marketers. I joined a group of like-minded people all working towards the same goals, which also had the training and tools I needed.

Start building your dream today, you can’t fail.

  1. Dear Michael.

This is really good and informative article. I have been an online entrepreneur for a long time now, from my experience I have learned that being truly successful requires committment. Giving up is the main reason why entrepreneurs fail to achieve their goals. Thanks for pointing out this issue in this article. You have been very helpful to new intreprenuers. Wish you all the best.

  2. Dear Michael,

Thanks for the great inspiring article! This has to be motivating, not only for me but also for many others.

I love that Steve Jobs quote and I have resigned my day job in December 2017. I am working on building my own online empire being my own boss. So your article means a lot to me.

In my case, I am good (some what okay) at goal setting and planning but unfortunately I fail in implementation. Dale Carnegie quote hit me on my head and I am working on it (implementation) by achieving my daily to do list (splitting my goals into daily targets).

The difference between ordinary people vs extra-ordinary people is the ability to take action. The literal meaning of the word power is “To Act”.

Also, I need to work on the bonus content you shared that is I need to surround myself with like-minded people and after reading your article I realized it’s importance.

    Thanks for the great insights.

  3. Giving up in my opinion is the number one reason why most people fail to become successful. In our world we have learned to have everything easy and fast but this is not how a business works. It needs time, patience, persistence along with good planning and the right tools. If one of these is missing then most probably failure is a given thing.

    • Oh yeah, giving up is #1. We live in an instant gratification world now, unlike in times past before all this technology we have today. A lot of people just don’t have the patience and work ethic it requires.

      Thanks for stopping by.
