I’ve written about this topic recently, however, I wanted to address those who are DOING all the right things, taking action, but just aren’t getting results.
So, you’re doing everything correctly, but those sales are just eluding you. Do the search engines just have it in for you? Is your content just crappy? I know how you feel. You’re wondering why it is so hard to make money online?
What Are Your Goals…
Let’s first talk about goals. Goals are great and they are a critical part of our success online. But, some goals, although they seem good, are self-defeating.
What I am talking about are ME goals.
Goals like:
- I’m going to buy a bigger house…
- I’m going to make more money this year…
- I’m going to be happy…
These goals look good at first glance, but what are they really saying? If you have a goal like “I’m going to make more money this year so I can do what I want”, you’re really saying “I don’t have enough money”.
This is a ME goal. ME goals generally do not bring you what you really want. They put your focus on trying to fix YOUR problems. When you are focused on trying to fix YOUR problem, you’re not focusing on what you really need to be doing to bring you what you want.
If you translate this over to online business goals, your goals are going to be more centered around selling “stuff” to make a profit. You’ll be focused on selling anything and everything.
The focus is on what is going to be better in YOUR life or that of your business.
What we need to do is shift our focus.
Shifting Your Focus…
How do we shift the focus of our goals so that we are putting our attention on things that will bring us what we really want?
Instead of placing the focus on ourselves, we place it on OTHERS.
Creating goals that bring value to you’re business customers or potential customers are far more likely to bring to you what you want. When you bring value to others the results are going to benefit you!
Set your sights on creating value to others and you’ll start seeing results.
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want…” – Zig Ziglar
This quote is so true and it should form the basis of your Affiliate Marketing business. Your goal is to help other people get what they already want. Furnish them with the information they need to make an informed decision. Also, answer their questions and provide valuable information to you’re potential customers.
This is how you make sales.
If your goals are about promoting products, your website is going to look like a big sales page.
Who You Should Be Writing For…
The majority of the content you create online should be for your potential customers. Sure, you’re going to have some landing pages that promote certain products, but most of you’re content is going to be addressing the visitors to your niche website.
Your content should answer their questions, address their issues, and provide solid information about you’re niche. When you do this, you start creating trust with you’re potential customers. And when they trust you, they will buy from you.
Take a good look at you’re content and make sure it is providing value and not selling. You can provide value and drop an affiliate link here and there. You just don’t want you’re content to look spammy or salesy.
Also, remember that “Content is King”. The more unique, quality content that you have, the higher you’re niche website is going to rank in Google. So make sure you are publishing content consistently, on a weekly basis. Ideally, you want to create at least 2 to 3 new posts to you’re niche website each week.
Choosing Your Niche Wisely…
You’ve probably heard that it’s best to choose something that you are passionate about. This is so true!
If you choose a niche that is fueled by a passion you already have, you much more likely to be successful.
Why?
- You’ll be more likely to keep at it even when things don’t seem to be working.
- Creating content for your niche will be much easier.
- You’ll love what you are doing vs. burning yourself out on something you dislike.
- Motivation will be self-fulfilling.
Reaching The Tipping Point…
At some point in your online business, you’re going to reach the tipping point.
What I mean by that is, things will plod along at a snails pace with little to no sales. Then suddenly, things will start happening. You’ll start generating consistent sales through certain methods you’ve been using in you’re content creation.
When that happens, you’ll find you’re in the Goldilocks zone. You’ll find what works for you and you’ll be able to expand on it going forward.
The key here is, you’ve got to be able to stick to your guns during those initial stages when nothing is happening. If you stay true to you’re goals and keep taking consistent action, you’ll be successful. This is where working a niche that is your passion will help you tremendously.
Conclusion
I hope that this short article sheds some light on why it is so hard to make money online. It’s not that it is so hard to do. It’s the fact that you’ve got to know who you’re focus should be on and choosing a niche that you’re passionate about.
You’ll find that making money online is much easier when you place your focus on providing value and helping your customers reach their goals. When you can do that in a niche that you are passionate about, you’ll have a much easier time achieving your goals in online business.
That’s the key element of success, delivering actual value is what will help us succeed. Quality over quantity. People tent not yo be easy going when it comes to giving anyone the favor of their attention (It’s the most appreciated value in this era of communication and hyperconnectivity).
We are fighting for people’s attention, and this is not always a loyal fight. There’s a point where everything seems to move forward alone, I have a question for you my friend: When devoting 50 hours on a weekly basis, how many months would take me to get positioned and making a humble living over the internet?
Thanks for a great post!
Hi Juan,
Thanks for the comment. As to your question, it’s different for everyone. 50 hours a week is quite a bit of time to invest. The question is, what are you doing in those 50 hours each week? How much time is devoted to training vs how much is devoted to writing content? Things like that.
For most people, it takes between 6 and 12 months to get a website off the ground and making some money. Some money does not mean full-time income. I know some who are making upwards of $100k after just 4 years and others who are not, and yet others who are making way over that. A lot depends on where you focus your efforts on a daily basis, your niche, and the methods you choose to implement.
Everyone is different.
Thanks,
Michael
When one first starts creating a business, everything is based around making sales. After a few downward moments, then you start making other content. Personally, I’ve gotten to the point that I barely promote things. I’d rather have my website revolving around things that can help people improve themselves. I always wanted my website to be a safe space for everyone and slowly, it’s coming along nicely. Content is the most important thing in your business regardless of sales.
Hi Stephanie,
Yes, focus on your readers and their needs and the rest will take care of itself.
Cheers,
Michael
